"The water's rough, but our vessel can tolerate it", one of our crew members said to the captain. "We need more sail! We want this ship to go as fast as the wind permits!", the captain shouted, as he steered the ship towards our destination. The seas were rough, and the waves that hit the hull of Santa Abelle made her rock and sway like the sea itself. The waves kept hitting her relentlessly, like a pack of lions taking down their prey. We were in the middle of the North Pacific, and our map had been dropped into the water by one of the more careless members of the crew. We had a spare, but that was the only one. Our ship has shown signs of disrepair, it would be a shame if we lost it, because i could bet you 5 chests of gold that this was the most beautiful ship on the face of the earth. Although it lacked in size, it excelled in beauty. It was expensive too, we had all our loot put into buying one ship. The tides were high, and our expectations for surviving were low.
It had been 36 days since we left. We started with a crew of 30, and now its 21. People are dying of starvation, dehydration, seasickness and poisoning. Some crew members started selling rats for one gold doubloon, but now those are in short supply. My friend, who was part of the crew, died of starvation a week ago. He refused to eat rats and the rations that we had were gone. He was too squeamish. I guess that's what happens when you don't want to take extreme measures when the need comes. As the captain was steering the ship, one of our crew members yelled out, "Storm incoming!". We watched as a huge wave crashed into the ships hull. Thunder roared as the pack of lions closed in, hungrier and stronger than before. The wave had severely damaged the front of the ship. We could here wooden planks cracking and squeaking, as if the ship was crying for help. Crew members panicked and fled. One by one they jumped into the water, and the died by the sheer force the waves have brought. I could see crew members in the water, being tossed around like toy soldiers in a wave pool. Brave members helped the captain steer out of the waves path, but all that was in vain, as a second wave crashed into her broadside. The ship was unusable now, and was slowly starting to sink.
Me, four crew members and the captain himself were left on the vessel. We held out until the storm died down a little bit. We all jumped into a boat and abandoned the ship. We had escaped the storm, but our hardships were not over yet.
We had rowed for 5 straight days now. We slept on the boat. One of the surviving members had bought some rats from other members, so we ate that. We couldn't drink the sea water, but fortunately captain had some spare bottles of water with him that we didn't know of. We lived on the rations we had, and waited for someone to rescue us.
We finally found a ship that could rescue us, but it was an enemy ship. We were taken in by their crew and we were held prisoner.
They gave us filthy rations to eat. We were given leftovers and ratskin. sometimes we were lucky and were given the flesh of their dead crew members. Cannibalism was our last resort. If we asked for more food they would beat us with broken planks and metal bars. Most of the time they would pick the sharp pieces to beat us up. We were disgraced and laughed at. The crew members spat at us and called us filthy things. We were held as prisoner for 5 months.
At last, a light of hope shone through the cloudy skies. Our fleet happened to cross the ship we were kept prisoner in. There was a great battle between the ship.we saw enemy crew members die before our eyes. it was a horrific, yet satisfying sight. Seeing our enemies die like that was honey to the eyes.
Crew members from our fleet roped down on the deck of the enemy ship and fought furiously against the enemy crew members. The fight lasted long, and the deck of the ship was not a pretty sight. blood and decapitated heads everywhere. But we were finally safe.
We were sailed back home, and we could go back to our families. The nightmare was over, but the horrors will linger in our minds forever.
